Krisofferson to Receive Veteran Award

Kris Kristofferson will be honored at the 8th Annual American Veteran Awards show set for Nov. 22 in Los Angeles. Willie Nelson will present Krisofferson with the veteran of the year award during the black-tie event at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Kristofferson, the son of a U.S. Air Force major general, served as an Army captain and helicopter pilot before moving to Nashville in 1965 to pursue his songwriting career. Others to be honored at the awards banquet include journalist Wolf Blitzer, actress Bo Derek, actor Gerald McRaney and Home Depot Chairman/CEO Robert Nardelli. This year’s award for best patriotic picture goes to filmmaker Randall Wallace and his movie We Were Soldiers. Tracy Byrd will perform at the awards presentation that will be telecast in February on the History Channel. 11/14/02
