Urban Continues Voice Rest

Keith Urban is canceling another six weeks of appearances because of what his publicists term “a persistent and serious vocal cord ailment.” Urban previously cancelled two concerts and a series of New York media appearances scheduled during the week of Jan. 20. Doctors at Nashville’s Vanderbilt Voice Clinic have now ordered a continuation of complete vocal rest. As a result, Urban was forced to cancel a series of upcoming appearances including a Canadian tour with Carolyn Dawn Johnson, shows in Nashville during the Country Radio Seminar and a March 1 performance at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Urban’s physician, Dr. C. Gaelyn Garrett, said, “Although Keith is improving, he is still very much at risk. Should he return prematurely to normal voice use, including singing and speaking, he could risk damage of a potentially permanent nature.” In a written statement, Urban noted his regrets over the cancellations and added, “There are no words to express my disappointment, but I know that I need to abide by my doctors’ instructions so that I am completely healthy in time to kick off the tour with Kenny Chesney in April.” 01/31/03
