Chicks’ Single Slides From No. 1

Despite Natalie Maines’ written apology to President Bush, a radio boycott knocked the Dixie Chicks from the top of the Billboard country singles compiled Monday (March 16). The Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier” topped the singles chart tallied on March 10, the date Maines made her remark during a London concert. On the latest chart, the track dips to No. 3 after logging a 15 percent decrease in airplay from the previous week. So far, the only apparent winner in the controversy is Joe Nichols, who replaces the Chicks at No. 1 with his second single, “Brokenheartsville.” 03/17/03
