Texas Record Producer Gets Jail Term

A Grammy-winning Texas record producer has been sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. Michael Morales was convicted of trying to extort $280,000 from former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tony Sanchez. Morales’ brother Dan, former Texas Attorney General, unsuccessfully ran against Sanchez for the nomination and is under unrelated federal indictments. Michael Morales produced Freddy Fender’s 2002 album La Musica de Baldemar Huerta. 4/11/03
