George Strait will receive the Academy of Country Music’s special achievement award during the organization’s 38th annual awards show. Strait will be recognized for scoring 50 No. 1 hits, breaking the late Conway Twitty’s long-standing record of 49 chart-topping singles. Strait achieved the landmark with his recent single, “She’ll Leave You With a Smile.” Strait becomes only the fourth recipient of the ACM’s special achievement award. Previous honorees include Garth Brooks, Jeff Foxworthy and the late singer-comedian George Burns. This year’s ACM Awards show takes place May 21 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
