Storms Force Cancellation of Chesney Concert

A series of storms and tornadoes that hit the South and the Midwest this week affected several country music artists. Heavy rains forced the cancellation of Kenny Chesney’s Thursday night (May 8) concert at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater near Birmingham, Ala. Chesney and his band watched as the rain continued to fall after their arrival at the venue. He noted, “There’s a point where you know you’re gonna have to call the show … but you just don’t want to. In the end, it was too flooded.” The show has been rescheduled for July 3. … Kix Brooks reports the loss of 24 trees at his Nashville-area farm from high winds that blew through Middle Tennessee. … Earlier in the week, Tracy Byrd and his band were traveling near Jackson, Tenn., around the time a tornado and hailstorm hit the area. Byrd’s bus driver pulled beneath an overpass while the storm passed. … And while there have been no reports of Alan Jackson being impacted by the weather, the Chattahoochee River in Georgia crested early Friday (May 9) at its highest level since 1961. 05/09/03
