CMA Music Festival Announced

Country music devotees are in Nashville this week for Fan Fair, but next year’s big event will be called the CMA Music Festival. A spokesperson for the Country Music Association, Fan Fair’s sponsor, confirmed Friday (June 6) that although the organization will continue to maintain use of the old name, Fan Fair will evolve into a different type of event. The organization’s board of directors made the decision to launch the CMA Music Festival following Fan Fair’s move to downtown Nashville in 2001. With daytime concerts taking place on the banks of the Cumberland River and evening concerts scheduled at the nearby Coliseum, the group decided that the word ’festival’ was more appropriate to the urban setting. Fan Fair had previously taken place at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. The 32nd annual Fan Fair began Thursday (June 5) and concludes Sunday night (June 8) with a concert featuring Neal McCoy, Jennifer Hanson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Trick Pony, Chris Cagle, Keith Urban, Jo Dee Messina, Trace Adkins, Wynonna and host Bill Engvall. 06/06/03
