Jon Voight, Deana Carter and Alison Stewart to host live TV coverage of Farm Aid ’99 on CMT

Farm Aid’s annual benefit concert for America’s family farmers will be telecast for the second consecutive year on CMT. Farm Aid ’99 Presented by Best Buy will be Sunday, Sept. 12, with CMT’s live coverage scheduled from 2 – 10:00 p.m., ET. The concert will be staged at the Nissan Pavilion in Prince William County, Va., just outside Washington D.C.

The eight-hour telecast will feature actor Jon Voight, CBS News Sunday Morning’s Alison Stewart and country music artist Deana Carter as the on-air television hosts. Also involved in the telecast will be Heather and Jeff, the stars of the weekly CMT Hit Trip series.

As part of the pre-event on-air promotion, CMT has been running daily Farm Aid Facts since Sept.5. The 12 one-minute vignettes, which will run right up until the start of the Farm Aid telecast, creatively bring together the plight of the American family farmer, and the artists’ classic performances given at the 11 previous Farm Aid concert events.

Organized and hosted by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young, Farm Aid ’99 will showcase a diverse musical talent lineup, including Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, Deana Carter, Steve Earle & The Dukes, Sawyer Brown, Trisha Yearwood, Mandy Barnett, Susan Tedeschi and Keb’ Mo’.

Farm Aid, which was founded in 1985 by Nelson, Mellencamp and Young, has distributed $14.5 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches and service agencies in 44 states.
