Alabama Donates ‘June Jam’ Proceeds, May Bring Back Concerts

Country group Alabama donated $100,000 to the Fort Payne, Ala., city school system on April 25. The funds are from past June Jam concerts that have been held on account since Alabama discontinued the local benefit concerts in 1997 after 16 years. According to the band’s record label, lead singer Randy Owen has hinted at a possible return of the June Jam someday, “if everything was done properly to insure a well-organized event with total cooperation from all parties involved.” On Wednesday (May 9), students responded to the donation with several thank-you letters that were posted in The Times Journal newspaper in Fort Payne. Owen said, “The students’ letters moved me, as much as anything I’ve ever experienced.”
