Country Hitmaker's Book Blocked

Publication of Alice Randall's novel The Wind Done Gone was blocked Friday (April 20) by a federal judge. Randall co-wrote Trisha Yearwood's 1994 hit "XXXs and OOOs (An American Girl)" and songs recorded by Moe Bandy, Holly Dunn, Judy Rodman and Mark O'Connor. The book, which Randall claims is a political parody, tells the story of Gone With the Wind from the slaves' point of view. U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell ruled in Atlanta that Randall's book infringes on the copyright of Margaret Mitchell's classic novel and constitutes an unauthorized sequel. Randall's publisher, Houghton Mufflin, will appeal.
