'O Brother' Soundtrack Repeats History

Film soundtrack O Brother, Where Art Thou? reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart this week, making it the second bluegrass album to reach the top slot. Dueling Banjos, another movie-spawned hit, spent four weeks atop the same chart in 1973, Billboard reports. Alison Krauss and Flatt & Scruggs each reached No. 2, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Will the Circle be Unbroken climbed to No. 4. Bluegrass prodigy Ricky Skaggs scored four No. 1 albums in the '80s when he was recording mainstream country music, using drums and electric instruments with little or no banjo. The O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack is at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 chart. It features artists such as Krauss, Ralph Stanley, Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch.
