Garth, Not Always A Hit With Everyone

While the mighty Garth Brooks continues to garner praise for his effort and charm on the baseball diamond with the San Diego Padres, one team member, however, touches yet another base with an interesting point. "To suggest that a 37-year-old country singer could make one of our minor league clubs insults not only everyone who's playing in the minors, but everyone who's sat there on draft day by a phone that didn't ring," says Padres minor league pitcher Brendan Sullivan. Brooks left camp recently to be with his mother Colleen Brooks, who has been suffering from cancer. "Obviously, he's welcome back," said Padres owner John Moores, "but we're a lot more concerned about his mom's situation."
