Harlan Howard Birthday Bash Returns

With performances by Delbert McClinton, Emmylou Harris, Sara Evans, Joe Nichols and Lonestar’s Richie McDonald, the Harlan Howard Birthday Bash is being revived on Nashville’s Music Row. Rock and Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame member Brenda Lee and industry veteran Ralph Murphy will host the event that also features performances by Jeff Bates, Radney Foster, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Jeffrey Steele, Merle Kilgore, Harley Allen, Stephony Smith, D. Vincent Williams, Rivers Rutherford, Darrell Scott, Lee Thomas Miller, Jimmy Melton and Mary Gauthier. Howard, known as “the dean of Nashville songwriters,” died in 2002. His wife, Melanie Smith Howard, and several friends are presenting the event after a six-year absence as a benefit for the Nashville Songwriters Foundation. It takes place Sept. 16 on a parking lot on 16th Avenue South near Music Row. 07/29/03
