Rockabilly Festival on Tap for Jackson

Rockabilly Fest 2001 is slated for June 29-July 1 at the Jackson Fairgrounds in Jackson, Tenn., hometown of late rockabilly legend Carl Perkins. The festival was held for the first time last April. Proceeds from the three-day music event will go to the construction costs of the International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame and Museum to be located in Jackson. Among the acts confirmed to play are Wanda Jackson, Narvel Felts, Paul Burlison (of the Johnny Burnette Trio), Bill Haley's Original Comets, Ace Cannon, Big Al Downing, Ray Walker (of The Jordanaires), Billy Burnette and Rocky Burnette. Organizers also have signed up many newer, lesser-known acts playing retro-rockabilly, and they expect to add other big name acts. The late Roy Orbison will be inducted into the rockabilly hall of fame. Ticket prices have not been announced.
