McGraw on the Mend, Attends Awards Shows

Tim McGraw, who recently underwent an emergency appendectomy, isn't ready to play basketball yet, but he is well enough to attend two awards shows this weekend, his spokeswoman says. McGraw will accompany wife Faith Hill to the People's Choice Awards, where she is nominated for Favorite Female Artist along with Britney Spears and Shania Twain. Other country acts up for trophies include Garth Brooks and George Strait, who will compete with Latin dance machine Ricky Martin for Favorite Male Artist. The Dixie Chicks and Alabama are up against 'NSYNC for Favorite Music Group or Band. The show airs Sunday (Jan. 7) at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. McGraw and Hill will hang around Los Angeles for Monday's American Music Awards, where McGraw is up for Male Country Artist with Strait and Alan Jackson. Hill vies with Martina McBride and Reba McEntire for Female Country Artist, and Breathe is up against Jackson's Under the Influence and Toby Keith's How Do You Like Me Now?! for Favorite Country Album. She'll also compete with Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion and Britney Spears in the Favorite Pop Or Rock Female category. The AMAs air Monday (Jan. 8) at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
