The Dixie Chicks sure didn’t have to beg for it and it came about very quickly. Only a short time after having been certified gold, the Chicks’ debut album, Wide Open Spaces, has now been certified platinum — selling in excess of one million units. The feat gives the country trio credit for being the fastest act in Sony Music history for latching platinum status with a debut album. The disc, released in January, is still selling 35,000 copies a week and is at No. 4 on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart.
