Students at an elementary school in Toby Keith’s hometown, Moore, Okla., planted a tree in the singer’s honor Thursday (Dec. 7). The school was leveled May 3, 1999, by a tornado that killed 43 people and left thousands homeless in Moore and Oklahoma City. The school received some of the money raised by Keith’s Tornado Relief Benefit, a 1999 concert that included performances by fellow Oklahomans Ronnie Dunn, Wade Hayes and Bryan White. Insurance claims paid to rebuild the school, but it was the money Keith and his friends raised that paid for the landscaping. More trees will be planted on Saturday (Dec. 9).
