After more than ten years of being one of the best ever, Country America magazine will soon be no more. The publication’s parent company, the Meredith Corporation, announced today that the final issue of Country America will be the holiday special, which is slated to hit stands in late November. The bimonthly magazine that has long featured brilliant articles, reviews and news about the country music world, currently at a circulation of 900,000, was launched in the fall of 1989, in association with The Nashville Network (TNN) and Group W Satellite Communications. The closing affects 26 employees based in Des Moines, New York and Chicago. Little said Meredith expects to place many of these employees in open positions at Meredith. According to a Meredith spokesperson, a lack of supporting revenue base for such a vast magazine is the reason behind the forthcoming close.
