Dove Awards Contenders

George Jones, Alison Krauss and Gary Chapman picked up nominations Wednesday in balloting for the Gospel Music Association's 31st Annual Dove Awards. Jones shares his nod for best country song with Vestal Goodman for their recording of the traditional tune "Angel Band." Krauss and Chapman are nominated separately in the same category for their contributions to the soundtrack album The Prince of Egypt - Nashville. Brent Lamb, new lead singer for Shenandoah, also is up for best country song, for "Love God." The Paynes round out the category with "He'll See Me Home." Vying for best bluegrass song are The Principles' "God Still Dries Our Tears"; Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver's "Nothing Can Touch Me"; The Lewis Family's "So Fine"; "That's What Christmas Means to Me" from A Walton's Christmas, Together Again; Susie Luchsinger's "There's Only One" (Luchsinger is Reba McEntire's sister); and Tim Surrett's "When I Wake Up to Sleep No More." Up for the Dove Award for best country album are Glen Campbell's A Glen Campbell Christmas; Luchsinger's Raised on Faith; Lamb's Right Now It's Raining; Jeff and Sheri Easter's Sittin' on Cloud Nine; and Karen Peck & New River's Turn It Loose. Kathie Lee Gifford will host the Dove Awards April 20 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
