Austin City Limits Feted

Officials with the TV show Austin City Limits attended a reception in their honor Tuesday night in Nashville. Singer-songwriter Guy Clark and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted the event. Those in attendance were treated to a compilation video featuring highlights from the show’s 25-year history. Producer Terry Lickona told the gathering that ACL never set out to win TV awards, instead placing emphasis on earning the respect of the artistic community. ASCAP presented Lickona with an award honoring the show as “the longest running popular music series in American history.” Garth Brooks kicks off ACL’s 25th anniversary season with a special one-hour concert on Feb. 5. “The reason I’m here is because this show is about only one thing: the music,” Brooks said in a quote from a news release about the upcoming show. Brooks last appeared on Austin City Limits 10 years ago, in 1990, at the outset of his career.
