Brooks Saves Oklahoma Kids from Fire

Garth Brooks threw caution to the wind Thursday (Oct. 19) to save two Oklahoma kids from a fire in Collinsville, Okla., a town just outside Tulsa. The Tulsa World reports that Brooks and an unidentified man evacuated brothers Ryan and Randall Cooper from their house, which was right in the path of a raging grass fire. "He was yelling, 'Ryan, Ryan!'" Ryan told the newspaper. "I was like, 'Who are you?' and he said, 'Get in the truck.'" Brooks drove Ryan through dense smoke to a neighbor's truck, where his brother Randall was waiting. The singer then returned to evacuate the Coopers' neighbor, Karen Shumate, and her three children in his pickup truck. It was Shumate who told the Cooper boys, "You just got saved by Garth Brooks." The fire leveled about 600 acres, but firefighters were able to stop it just two feet shy of the Coopers' home. The World also reports that Brooks and a neighbor saved the Coopers' boat from the blaze. A spokewoman for Capitol Records said Brooks hasn't said a word about his heroics, and she heard about the incident through a call from the Tulsa World. Brooks' in-laws live a few miles from the site of the fire, and Brooks reportedly is building a home nearby.
