Country artists including Pam Tillis, Chely Wright and John Berry are in the mountains this week, raising money to fight cancer. The singers are among 22 celebrities taking part in the sixth annual “Country in the Rockies” event in Crested Butte, Colo., a benefit for the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories, a research program at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville. More than 250 fans have gathered for the event, which runs through Sunday. Also among the participants are Gary Morris, Lari White, Suzy Boggus, Billy Dean, BlackHawk and Jason Sellers. The celebrities tend bar, sing, dance and pass the hat. “It lets the community get to know the stars in a more personal way and share in the fundraising,” says Preston, president and CEO of Broadcast Music Inc.
