Kershaw for Governor?

We reported yesterday that Sammy Kershaw and Mercury Records have parted ways after 10 years and eight albums. In the aftermath, the country star has more on his mind than finding a new record deal. Kershaw, a tough-talking Republican, has his sites on some day becoming the governor of his home state, Louisiana. Kershaw, who lives outside of Nashville, told The Tennessean that he reestablished residency in Louisiana last year and has been voting there since. He says he hopes to move back there by year's end, and that he's already started putting together a campaign committee. If he makes it to the governor's mansion, he won't be the first country star to head the state. Country Music Hall of Famer Jimmie Davis, of "You Are My Sunshine" fame, was elected to governor of Louisiana in 1944 and again in 1960.
