New Books on Country Music

New books about Alan Jackson, Tammy Wynette and John Denver are among the works on country music coming out soon, according to the Publishers Weekly annual list of spring releases. Here’s the rundown:

Arriving in bookstores this month is You Gotta Be Bad Before You Can Be Good!, by Country Music Hall Of Fame member, the late Cliffie Stone and his wife, Joan Carol Stone. It is an anecdote-filled how-to tome for beginning performers and a companion piece to the Stones’ 1991 book Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Songwriting but Didn’t Know Who to Ask.

John Denver: Mother Nature’s Son, by John Collis, March.

Tammy Wynette: My Mother’s Story, by Jackie Daly with Tom Carter, April.

Reading Lyrics: More Than a Thousand of the Century’s Finest Lyrics, by Robert Gottlieb and Robert Kimball, August. (We haven’t seen the book, but if the title is accurate we must assume there will be some country lyrics among these.)

Nashville: The Pilgrims of Guitar Town, by Robert Hicks, photos by Michel Arnaud.

Livin’ on Country: The Alan Jackson Story, by Scott Gray, June.
