The 39th Western Heritage Awards will take place at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center in Oklahoma on Saturday, April 1. The winners in 15 categories of literature, television, film and music will be honored with the “Wrangler” bronze award, designed by western sculptor John Free. Host for the evening will be Charlie Daniels, and presenters include Red Steagall, Dusty Rogers, Buck Taylor, Tom Selleck, Bill Kurtis, Lee Meriwether, Brad Johnson, Barry Corbin and James Gammon. Awards will be given in two music categories: Outstanding Original Composition and Outstanding Traditional Western Music Album. The Director’s Award for Excellence in Dramatic Presentation and Original Music Composition — given only for special meritorious works — will be presented to R.W. Hampton for his play and album, The Last Cowboy — His Journey.
