Dolly Parton Honored for Literacy Program

Dolly Parton received an award last week from Education Secretary Richard Riley for her work in helping children read. A reading program that the Country Music Hall of Famer started in her hometown of Sevierville, Tenn., has so far donated more than 150,000 books to preschool children. According to Nashville’s The Tennessean, Parton and a group of partners are donating $7 million to take the concept of the “Imagination Library” nationwide.
