Historian Receives Award

Renowned music historian Dr. Charles Wolfe, who writes’s “Vintage Country” column, received a prestigious honor at the 10th Annual Ralph J. Gleason Music Book Awards. Wolfe’s A Good Natured Riot: The Birth of The Grand Ole Opry (published jointly by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Vanderbilt University Press) was awarded third place. Peter Guralnick’s Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley and Gary Giddins’ Visions of Jazz: The First Century took first and second place, respectively. The awards, sponsored by Rolling Stone, BMI and New York University, were presented Monday night during a reception at New York’s Sony Club.
