Montgomery Gentry Sets Up National FFA Organization Scholarship Fund

Currently on the upper reaches of the country chart with "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm," Montgomery Gentry is doing more than just singing about farming issues -- the duo is putting its money where its heart is. Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry will be at the National FFA Organization (formerly known as Future Farmers of America) headquarters in Indianapolis this afternoon to present a $10,000 check to start a scholarship fund to be awarded to a student pursuing a career in production agriculture. In April, the first recipient of the award will be selected. The winner and their parents will be flown to Nashville in June for Fan Fair, where Montgomery Gentry will publicly recognize the recipient. The event is just the beginning of the duo's involvement with the organization. "Farm Aid is so important," Gentry said in a press release. "Willie Nelson knew what he was doing when he put that together, because it gets people to look at the faces of the people who feed them. But in-between times, I think people need to remember those people, too. This is a small thing, but we hope it's a signal that we value the young people who're making a commitment to carry on a way of life that's been in their families. We, as a country, need them -- and we want them to know it."
