Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs and Steve Earle will perform at the opening concert for the Kennedy Center’s Irish Festival in Washington, D. C. on May 13. Officially called “Island: Arts From Ireland,” the event runs from May 13 to May 28. Also appearing on the show at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House will be Mary Black, Donal Lunny and Coolfin, Sharon Shannon, Carlos Nunez and members of the cast of Riverdance. The aim of the concert is to show the links between Irish and Scottish music and American music. Skaggs demonstrated some of these connections during a presentation and performance for the Smithsonian Institution in December. A Kennedy Center spokesman said the concert will not be telecast live but probably will be shown eventually on PBS.
