Asleep at the Wheel — who picked up a pair of Grammys for their second Bob Wills tribute album, Ride With Bob — will open dates for Bob Dylan for his March tour of small halls throughout the West. “After we made an album named Ride With Bob, we thought we oughta just go do that, go ride with Bob …” frontman Ray Benson joked in a press release. “Bob Dylan is a musical beacon for so many of us, so it’s a dream come true to tour with him. I’ve jammed with him a few times — me and Charlie Sexton — and it’s always unusual stuff. So, I think people will see and hear things they’re not used to experiencing anymore. Bob Wills. Bob Dylan. They’re both legends — and they’re both men that I have the utmost respect for. Being part of their music is the kind of thing I got in this business to do.” Asleep at the Wheel and Dylan will kick off their tour March 11 in San Luis Obispo. Here’s the remaining confirmed dates: March 12, Bakersfield, Calif.; March 14, Visalia, Calif.; March 15 and 16, Vera Cruz, Calif.; March 19, Pocatello, Idaho; March 20, Boise, Idaho; March 21, Pullman, Wash.; March 22, Missoula, Mont.; March 24, Bozeman, Mont.; March 25, Billings, Mont.; March 29, Bismark, N.D.; March 30, Fargo, N.D.; and March 31, Rochester, Minn.
