Lila McCann -- Changing the World?

It's not enough for Lila McCann to make hit records and be a nationally-ranked high school cheerleader. Now the 18-year-old is using her own success to help other young people. McCann was named by Teen People magazine as one of "20 Teens Who Will Change the World." In mid-April, she will join the other 19 teens recognized by the magazine at an event in New York City, hosted by Teen People and L'Oreal cosmetics. At the ceremony, the young people will be celebrated and presented with scholarship checks to assist them in reaching their goals. Since McCann is already successful with her music career, she is using her L'Oreal contribution to establish her own Lila McCann Scholarship at her Tacoma, Wash., high school. Each year, the scholarship will benefit a deserving student's higher education, artistic interests or charity work. Also, the high school senior has recently adopted a new Pekingese puppy to help keep her company on the concert trail this summer. But she's not been able to come up with a suitable name for her new friend, so she is inviting her fans to help her choose a name. If McCann selects a fan suggestion, that fan will receive a personally signed and framed photo of Lila with her new puppy.
