During her Country Radio Seminar appearance Tuesday night at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Jo Dee Messina received a special honor from Billboard magazine. Wade Jessen, who oversees the trade magazine’s country charts, presented the redhead with a plaque commemorating her rank as country radio’s most-played female solo artist for 1999. “You’ve been hanging out at the top of our charts for a long time,” Jessen said to the singer, who teared up after receiving the award.
“Country radio has been wonderful to me, and the fans are still right there,” she observed before singing “Because You Love Me,” from her 1998 album, I’m Alright. In addition to performing her radio hits, Messina previewed material from a new CD, due this summer on Curb Records.
