Artists Inducted Into Texas, Mississippi Halls of Fame

Willie Nelson performs Saturday (Aug. 16) in Carthage, Texas, when three of his friends become members of the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Bush and the late Lefty Frizzell are this year’s inductees. Nelson and Kristofferson worked with Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash in the Highwaymen. For years, Nelson has opened his concerts with Bush’s original song, “Whiskey River.” And Nelson paid tribute to Frizzell on the 1977, To Lefty From Willie. Other performers at Saturday’s ceremony include Kristofferson, David Frizzell (Lefty’s brother) and the Geezinslaws. … Singer-songwriter Hank Cochran was inducted into the Mississippi Hall of Fame during an Aug. 9 ceremony in Jackson, Miss. Cochran performed a medley of songwriting triumphs, including "I Fall to Pieces," "Make the World Go Away" and "Don’t You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me." ‘N Sync’s Lance Bass and bluesmen Willie Dixon and Little Milton were also among this year’s 10 inductees into the Mississippi Music Hall of Fame. 08/13/03
