Opry Ends CMT Affiliation

The Grand Ole Opry’s weekly telecast on CMT is coming to an end, after Opry owner Gaylord Entertainment did not renew its agreement with CMT. CMT has presented the one-hour Grand Ole Opry Live each Saturday night since 2001. Prior to that, the program aired on TNN: The Nashville Network. In a statement released Wednesday (Sept. 3), CMT officials said, “The contract between CMT and Gaylord Entertainment for the Opry telecast has reached the end of its term. CMT and Gaylord Entertainment negotiated for a new term, but an agreement was not reached. … CMT wishes only the best for the Opry.” CMT’s final presentation of Grand Ole Opry Live will air Sept. 27. CMT is currently seen in 70.4 million U.S. homes. 09/03/2003
