Dolly Parton’s alma mater, Sevier County High School in Sevierville, Tenn., has established a scholarship in the singer’s name. Parton learned of the honor while visiting the school Saturday night (Aug. 19) to congratulate the state-championship football team, principal Gary Roach said. The Sevier County Alumni Association raised $100,000 for the scholarship, and Parton pledged to match the money through her Dollywood Foundation. The grant will be awarded to a graduating senior, based on financial need and grade-point average. A namesake scholarship isn’t the only thing the Hall of Fame member left with Saturday night. The football team presented her with a varsity letter jacket and a football jersey.
