Lyle Lovett has been tapped to score director Robert Altman’s upcoming romantic comedy, Dr. T & the Women. Sixteen new and classic tracks from Lovett and His Large Band will appear on the companion soundtrack, including a jazzier version of “Ain’t It Somethin’,” which appeared on his 1994 album I Love Everybody. Other Lovett originals include “She’s Already Made Up Her Mind” and “You’ve Been So Good Up to Now,” as well as 13 instrumental tracks. This is Lovett’s first instrumental film score. MCA will release the soundtrack Sept. 26. Lovett has acted in three Altman films: The Player, Short Cuts and Cookie’s Fortune. Dr. T & the Women stars Richard Gere as a Dallas-based gynecologist who has many mishaps surrounding his affluent women clients. The ensemble cast of women includes Laura Dern, Liv Tyler, Helen Hunt, Farrah Fawcett, Kate Hudson, Shelley Long and Janine Turner. The film will hit theaters Oct. 13.
