Once the chief songwriter and lead guitarist for seminal 1980s Los Angeles roots rock band The Blasters, Dave Alvin has been performing on his own for more than a decade, turning out lyrically stunning and critically applauded solo albums. Alvin’s seventh solo album, Public Domain, is a collection of revamped traditional folk, country and blues songs old enough to have their copyrights lapse into the public domain. The Whites — father Buck and daughters Cheryl and Sharon — have returned to their distinctive acoustic, Dobro-infused sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s on A Lifetime in the Making, the group’s first album in four years.
