Project Spotlights Ax Men

Nuance Records will release Nashville Guitars: A Showcase of Nashville's Hottest Guitar Players on Aug. 22. The disc was produced by guitarist/producer Louie Shelton, who played the licks on the Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville," Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze," the Jackson Five's "I Want You Back" and countless other hits. Contributing to the 11-track CD along with Shelton are Diamond Rio's Jimmy Olander and renowned session players Reggie Young (Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard), Ray Flacke (Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris), Mark Casstevens (Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood), Kerry Marx (Johnny Cash, Elton John), Tom Hemby (Faith Hill, Vince Gill), Boomer Castleman (Kenny Rogers, George Jones), Kelly Back (Alan Jackson, Terri Clark), Dug Grieves (Gordon Lightfoot, Grand Ole Opry), and Johnny Hiland. The entire roster wll play a benefit concert Sept. 26 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Also on the bill will be The Players, a group comprising sought-after session musicians Brent Mason (guitar), Eddie Bayers (drums), John Hobbs (keyboards), Michael Rhodes (bass) and Paul Franklin (steel guitar). Tickets for the show will be available through Ticketmaster beginning Monday (Aug. 7).
