Gary Buck Dies

Canadian country music personality Gary Buck died Tuesday (Oct. 14) in Didsbury, Alberta, at age 63. Buck reached No. 11 in Billboard’s country singles chart in 1963 with “Happy to Be Unhappy” — a rare feat for a Canadian at that time. In addition to scoring future Canadian hits on Capitol and RCA, his publishing company helped bring songs like “Songbird” to prominence. He also won numerous awards as a performer and a producer. After 12 years as international director of the Country Music Association in Nashville, Buck founded the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989. Buck himself was inducted in 2001. 10/15/03
