UMG’s Nashville Office Cuts One Job

Universal Music Group cut more than 1,350 jobs around the world on Thursday (Oct. 16), but only one mid-level executive position was eliminated in the Nashville office. UMG is the world’s largest music company, and is the parent company of the MCA, Mercury, Lost Highway and Universal South labels, with an artist roster that includes Gary Allan, Reba McEntire, Joe Nichols, Shania Twain and Lucinda Williams. UMG cites Internet file-sharing and home CD-burning for its $48.8 million operating loss in the first half of 2003. 10/16/03
