BMG, Sony to Merge

Two major record labels — Sony and BMG — intend to consolidate in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals from the U.S. and Europe. If the deal goes through, it is likely that rosters from both labels will be trimmed, and jobs will be lost. BMG is the parent company of three Nashville labels: RCA, BNA and Arista, with artists including Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and Lonestar. Sony Music Nashville has four imprints: Columbia, Epic, Monument and Lucky Dog. Its artists include the Dixie Chicks, Montgomery Gentry, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless and Buddy Jewell. 11/7/03
