Country Sales Drop Nearly 10 Percent

Sales of country albums decreased nearly 10 percent in 2003, from 76.9 million to 69.3 million. In 2002, new albums from Kenny Chesney, the Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Shania Twain helped bolster the sales figures. However, none of them released studio albums in 2003, except for Chesney’s holiday album. Toby Keith’s Shock’n Y’all sold 2.3 million copies to become the top-selling country album in 2003, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
