The Dixie Chicks will receive the Patrick Lippert Award during the 11th annual Rock the Vote Awards. Presented by MTV and Rock the Vote, the Feb. 7 awards presentation at the Hollywood Palladium will include performances by N.E.R.D. and Black Eyed Peas. The Chicks are being honored for their “commitment to preserving and protecting freedom of expression.” Following the controversy that erupted in March 2004, the trio partnered with Rock the Vote to launch Chicks Rock, Chicks Vote — an initiative to encourage young women to vote. The award is named for Rock the Vote’s first executive director who died of complications from AIDS in July 1993. Rhino Records’ Richard Foos will receive the 2004 Rock the Vote Founders Award.
