Chicks Vow Continued Activist Role

In accepting an award from the Rock the Vote organization, the Dixie Chicks avowed they will continue to occupy a prominent role in the national political dialogue. The trio received the Patrick Lippert Award at the second annual Rock the Vote awards at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday (Feb. 7). At the red carpet celebrity walk before the event, Natalie Maines told CMT that although the Chicks will be musically laying low this year due to pregnancies, they will be writing for a new album. “We’ll also be involved in politics, like it or not,” Maines added. Emily Robison noted that the Dixie Chicks-Rock the Vote partnered “Chicks Rock, Chicks Vote!” campaign has recently added 150,000 young people to the roster of newly-registered voters. In receiving the award, Maines said, “Register to vote, but be sure you vote for the right person. There’s a wrong person and a right person.” Other award winners at the event were Rhino Records founder Richard Foos, radio personality Tom Joyner and rapper Sean “P. Diddy” Combs.
