Travis Snags Dove Nominations

Randy Travis is nominated in three categories at the Gospel Music Association’s 35th annual Dove Awards. In addition to an artist of the year nomination, Travis is up for country recorded song of the year and country album of the year. In the artist of the year category, Travis is listed alongside contemporary Christian acts MercyMe, Michael W. Smith, Stacie Orrico and Switchfoot. Travis recorded two titles nominated for song of the year — “Pray for the Fish” and “Three Wooden Crosses.” The latter, written by Nashville songwriters Doug Johnson and Kim Williams, was the CMA’s song of the year in 2003. A country album of the year nomination went to Travis’ Worship and Faith. Other country nominees for Dove Awards include Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton (for a project with Dottie Rambo), Connie Smith, Sharon White, Barbara Fairchild and the Oak Ridge Boys. The nominations were announced Tuesday (Feb. 10). The awards show is set for April 28 at Nashville’s Gaylord Entertainment Center.
