Mel Gibson’s Passion Spawns CD Compilation

Nashville-based Universal South Records is preparing the April 6 release of Songs Inspired by The Passion of the Christ. Director Mel Gibson provided input on the CD compilation as a companion to his film, The Passion of the Christ. Assembled primarily from previously-released material, the collection will include tracks from Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ricky Skaggs, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Elvis Presley, Cranberries vocalist Dolores O’Riordan and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Holly Williams, daughter of Hank Williams Jr., has contributed a version of her grandfather’s “How Can You Refuse Him Now.” The CD also features a song written for the movie by Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings’ widow. She performs “Please Carry Me Home” with their son, Shooter Jennings. Music video director Lian Lunson compiled the CD.
