Funeral Services Set for Former Crickets Guitarist

Funeral services will be held Friday (April 9) in Independence, Mo., for Niki M. Sullivan, former rhythm guitarist for Buddy Holly & the Crickets. Sullivan, 66, joined Holly's band in 1957 and played on 27 records, including "That'll Be the Day," "Oh Boy," "Not Fade Away" and "Maybe Baby." He left the group later in 1957 following Holly's debut appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Holly died in a 1959 plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. Sullivan, who recently retired from a job with Sony Electronics, died Tuesday (April 6) at his home near Kansas City.
