Rockabilly Musicians to Donate Drums

W.S. Holland and D.J. Fontana, two of rockabilly’s most famous drummers, will auction their drum sets at this year’s Rockabilly Festival to be held Aug. 5 in Jackson, Tenn. Part of the proceeds will raise money for the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Holland played for Johnny Cash from 1960 to 1997, and he’s donating the drum kit used on all episodes of The Johnny Cash Show. Holland also played on the Carl Perkins’ original recording of “Blue Suede Shoes.” Fontana’s drum set was used on Elvis Presley’s studio sessions from 1954 to 1968. Bids begin at $60,000 per set.
