Star Power Intensifies for CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards

Brooks & Dunn to Present Reba McEntire the Johnny Cash Visionary Award

Country music’s hottest celebrities will be joined by stars from across the entertainment world when they share the stage at the CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards live on Wednesday, April 21 at 8 p.m. ET on CMT. The incomparable Dolly Parton will host country music’s only fan-voted awards show.

Newly named award presenters include Minnie Driver (Ella Enchanted), noted author and actress Dr. Maya Angelou, supermodel Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, country chanteuse Carolyn Dawn Johnson and breakthrough video award contender Jimmy Wayne. Previously announced presenters include John Corbett (Sex and the City), Carson Kressley (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), Shania Twain, Sara Evans, Dierks Bentley, Joe Nichols, Blake Shelton, Julie Roberts, Josh Turner, NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray and from CMT’s Cowboy U, Judd Leffew and Rocco Wachman.

Live power-packed musical performances will be delivered by Alan Jackson, Montgomery Gentry, Parton, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Sheryl Crow, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban.

Multi-media superstar, Reba McEntire, will be the first recipient of the newly named Johnny Cash Video Visionary Award. Presented to her by Brooks & Dunn, the award honors McEntire’s musical vision, innovative and groundbreaking music videos and pioneering initiatives in entertainment during her three-decade career. Cash was bestowed the honor last year and after June Carter Cash’s moving acceptance on behalf of her ailing husband, CMT renamed the award to honor the Man in Black. Country super group, the Dixie Chicks, received the first Video Visionary Award in 2002.

The CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards Pre-Party 90-minute special will kick off on Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. ET when CMT will telecast live from the plaza of the Gaylord Entertainment Center in downtown Nashville. Country comedy/parody king, Cledus T. Judd, will host from the stage with live performances from Trace Adkins, Bentley and Gretchen Wilson. The Del McCoury Band and duo Big & Rich will also make appearances at the pre-party. CMT host Katie Cook will interview celebrities from the Flame Worthy red carpet while CMT host Lance Smith will interview fans partying in the plaza.

The CMT 2004 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards is country music’s only fan-voted awards show and only video music awards. The final four nominees for the Flame Worthy video of the year will be announced at the beginning of the live telecast on Wednesday, April 21, and viewers will choose the winner at during the show. The winner will be announced during the telecast.

The CMT 2003 Flame Worthy Video Music Awards premiere is the highest rated telecast in CMT history among viewers ages 18-49. On the 2003 premiere date, more than 8.3 million viewers watched the live awards show and related Flame Worthy programs.
