Wilson Tops Country Singles and Albums Charts

Newcomer Gretchen Wilson will debut at No. 1 this week on Billboard‘s country albums chart and at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, a list tracking sales of all musical styles. Sales of Here for the Party were propelled by “Redneck Woman,” Wilson’s introductory single that goes to the top of Billboard‘s Hot Country Singles & Tracks this week. The last solo female artist to score a No. 1 country single was Martina McBride with “Blessed” in 2002. Sales of Wilson’s album were about 1,000 copies short of grabbing the Billboard 200 top spot from Usher’s Confessions. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Usher sold just over 228,000 copies, and Wilson moved almost 227,000. In topping the country albums chart, Wilson ends a 14-week run for Kenny Chesney’s When the Sun Goes Down.
